General Magic Inc. Completes Acquisition of Latch AI, Bringing Intelligent Patient Engagement and Practice Automation Together

Acquisition strengthens General Magic’s mission to give healthcare practices back their time—reducing administrative burden, improving efficiency and enabling owners and staff to focus on patients and growth

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — October 14th, 2026 — General Magic Inc., a healthcare technology company focused on simplifying how clinics operate, announced live on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt today the completed acquisition of Latch AI, part of the Martell Ventures portfolio, a client retention and relationship intelligence platform that helps businesses detect customer drift, prevent churn and generate renewals and referrals.

The acquisition brings together two complementary capabilities with a shared objective: helping healthcare practices spend less time managing administration and more time caring for patients and building their businesses.

Latch AI’s technology identifies when clients begin to disengage, helps businesses take the right action to bring them back, and turns strong customer relationships into renewals and referrals.

General Magic’s flagship product, gema, takes a broader approach to the operation of a healthcare practice—connecting with the systems a clinic already uses and intelligently coordinating the work that happens across them.

Together, the companies are creating an increasingly intelligent technology layer around the modern healthcare practice.

Making the clinic work—not making the staff work harder

Healthcare practices have traditionally relied on a patchwork of systems for practice management, communications, scheduling, records and other administrative functions. The result is often significant manual work for practice owners and staff, who must spend time moving information between systems and responding to repetitive requests.

gema is designed to change that.

Clinics keep the phone number, records system and tools they already know and trust. gema connects to those systems and brings the critical elements of the practice—including customers, schedules, conversations, knowledge and financial information—into one intelligent view.

It then does the work across those systems.

gema can:

  • Answer calls, texts, web chats and emails 24/7
  • Book, move and confirm appointments
  • Send reminders and follow-ups
  • Write confirmed bookings and updates back into the clinic’s system of record
  • Handle patient inquiries and other requests
  • Manage internal clinic requests and workflows
  • Identify exceptions and hand them to staff with the appropriate context
  • Allow staff to focus on the human work that requires their expertise

Importantly, gema is designed to augment staff, not replace them.

“We don’t believe the future of healthcare is about replacing people with technology. We believe it is about giving great people better tools,” said Parm Gill, Founder and CEO of General Magic Inc. “The biggest opportunity is to remove the administrative friction that consumes so much of a practice owner’s and staff’s day. When technology can answer the phone, manage a booking, send a follow-up, update the record and handle the routine work automatically, people can get back to the work that actually requires people. That’s a fundamentally different way of thinking about technology in healthcare.”

Real-world impact already being delivered

The combination of General Magic’s technology and Latch AI’s client engagement capabilities builds on a platform that is already demonstrating measurable impact in healthcare practices.

To date:

  • 52% of General Magic customers’ online bookings occur outside traditional weekday 9-to-5 hours
  • 99% of those bookings are automatically written into the clinic’s system of record
  • 10,000+ patient bookings have been handled by gema in the past 90 days

These results demonstrate the potential of intelligent automation to extend the operating capacity of a practice beyond traditional business hours while reducing the amount of manual administrative work required from staff.

For practice owners, the value is not simply more automation. It is more productive time.

Every appointment booked without staff intervention, every inquiry answered after hours, every reminder sent automatically and every record updated without manual data entry represents time that can be redirected toward patient care, staff development, business development and growth.

Latch AI adds the relationship layer

Latch AI expands this capability beyond the day-to-day operation of the practice and into one of the most important drivers of sustainable growth: retaining and growing existing customer relationships.

Latch AI detects when clients begin to drift, identifies opportunities to re-engage them and helps businesses turn strong relationships into renewals and referrals.

Its simple proposition—Detect Drift. Prevent Churn. Grow Through Referrals.—aligns closely with General Magic’s broader vision of helping practices not only operate more efficiently, but grow more effectively.

“Joining forces with General Magic is an exciting next chapter for Latch AI,” said Alisha Esmail, Founder of Latch AI. “We built Latch AI around a simple idea: businesses should know when valuable relationships are at risk and have the tools to do something about it. General Magic has built an equally compelling vision around eliminating the administrative friction that holds businesses back. Together, we can help healthcare practices not only operate more efficiently, but build stronger relationships with their patients and create more opportunities for growth.”

Building the intelligent operating layer for healthcare

“Every business owner knows the cost of a customer quietly drifting away. Latch was built to catch that early. At Martell Ventures, we cofound AI-first companies with operators and stay through the build, the scale and the outcome. We’re excited to have found the right home for Latch’s next stage, and we’re looking forward to seeing what Parm and the team at General Magic do next. Thanks to Alisha and the Latch team for the work that got it here,” added Graeme Barlow, Martell Ventures.

The acquisition represents an important step in General Magic’s vision to become a technology platform that sits intelligently across the systems healthcare practices already use.

Rather than asking clinics to replace their existing technology stack, General Magic is focused on connecting it, orchestrating it and making it work together.

The goal is straightforward: the clinic should not have to be the integration.

“We see a future where a practice doesn’t need to be an expert in technology to benefit from it,” said Parm Gill, Founder and CEO. “The technology should simply work. The clinic should be able to keep the systems it likes, while an intelligent layer connects them, understands what is happening and takes action. The owner shouldn’t have to be the integration between their phone system, practice-management system, inbox, scheduling tools and staff. The technology should do that.”

He added:

“Our ambition is much bigger than automating a few administrative tasks. We want to fundamentally change the economics and experience of running a healthcare practice. If we can give a practice owner hours back every week, help their team spend more time on meaningful human work, improve the patient experience and help them retain and grow their customer base, then technology is doing what it should do—creating capacity for people to do more of what matters.”

A shared vision for the future of healthcare practices

With the acquisition complete, General Magic will integrate Latch AI’s capabilities into its broader product and technology strategy while continuing to invest in artificial intelligence, workflow automation, patient engagement and practice operations.

The combined platform is designed around a simple principle:

Technology should remove work—not create more of it.

For healthcare practices, that means fewer administrative tasks, less time spent moving information between systems, faster and more consistent patient communication, stronger customer relationships and more capacity to focus on the things that ultimately drive a successful practice.

General Magic believes the next generation of healthcare practices will have smarter technology working alongside their people.

And when the technology does more of the routine work, people have more time to do the human work—and practice owners have more time to build the business.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
